Corporate Social Responsibility

Our Philosophy
NB Impacts NB Impacts

Our programs leverage the firm's resources, from our people (employee expertise, volunteerism and nonprofit board service) to the financial (including the Neuberger Berman Foundation and corporate grants)—and it is at this intersection of leadership, expertise, funding and engagement where our impact is greatest.

While we broadly support the causes most important to our people, the Neuberger Berman Foundation is committed to helping underserved children and youth achieve their potential through educational enrichment and support programs that promote academic success, independence and economic sustainability.

Our Impact
The Neuberger Berman Foundation

The Neuberger Berman Foundation partners with nonprofit organizations that provide support services to at-risk and underserved children and youth. Our grantees support children from birth to early adulthood, as well as their families. Our Neuberger Berman Foundation portfolio of partners is holistic and focuses on a child’s entire well-being by providing programs that include K-12 educational academic support, mentoring, college preparation, workforce development, healthcare (physical, behavioral and mental), social and emotional well-being, food security and housing. In addition to funding, we support our grantees by leveraging the time and talent of our employee volunteers and leaders.

Celebration with Service
Each May, we celebrate the anniversary of our reemergence as an independent company with a global “Celebration with Service”—a week of volunteer projects in our local communities. Since 2010, we have volunteered in 25 cities with over 1,000 nonprofit partners. Our colleagues have inspired youth, prepared adults for job interviews, spent time with seniors, cooked meals for the homeless and have spent thousands of hours beautifying community gardens, public parks and schools.

Our People
In addition to 90% of our NBF grantees being recommended by employees, we encourage our employees to get involved in our philanthropy through different avenues.
People with Purpose

Our People with Purpose program empowers employees to advocate on behalf of organizations with which they are involved with and receive funding.

Honor Flight Chicago
“Honor Flight Chicago’s mission is to honor and thank America’s war veterans for their service and sacrifice for our nation. The organization’s flagship event is the Day of Honor, an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC for WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans to visit the memorials built in their honor. It has been a meaningful experience to regularly volunteer with Honor Flight Chicago since 2019, assisting with veteran outreach and providing Day of Honor support.”

Employee Resource Groups
Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) partner with the firm to offer unique ways to build connections and provide inclusive opportunities. Our ERGs lead focused efforts that help us process current events and allow us to contribute meaningfully where they feel it matters most.
Neuberger Berman has a long history of supporting the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF). Notably, our first black general counsel, Carl Randolph, proudly served on their board. Together with our NB Black Experience ERG, we continue to engage with LDF on racial and social justice issues.
In 2021, after a series of hate crimes against Asians in the U.S., our ERG NB APPEAL (Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy & Leadership) organized a virtual 5k to raise money for anti-racism organization Stop AAPI Hate.
Our NB Pride group regularly partners with Ali Forney Center, an organization that supports LGBTQ runaway youth in New York City. Our employees have spent time with the youth, served meals and sponsored a Thanksgiving dinner.

Other Employee-Led Leadership in Philanthropy
“At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I began organizing weekly Peloton rides with employees and clients. Being able to gather together virtually when we lost in-person contact helped us stay connected and bond over a common interest. Our group continues to grow and given engagement and interest from our colleagues and clients, we began quarterly charity rides in which the firm donates money to a designated nonprofit for every participant.”

Allison Saloy
Relationship Manager, Broker Dealer and NB Foundation Board Member (New York)

“Through our Networking Circles—which provide us with the opportunity to expand our networks and develop professionally—we had the opportunity to organize a volunteer event with Henry Street Settlement. We were thrilled to maximize our impact by engaging with both children during a virtual arts and crafts session and seniors through a pen pal project.”

Our World
While our Foundation’s mission is our guiding light, we look beyond traditional philanthropy and think critically about how we can have an impact more broadly.
Civic Engagement
Our Civic Engagement Initiative is a bottom-up, employee-driven effort that focuses on driving greater civic awareness by providing education on how to engage locally and on key issues impacting employees.
We are proud to be members of Time to Vote Movement, a nonpartisan, business-led initiative to help ensure employees have the information and opportunity the vote. We provide a flexible work schedule to all employees to ensure they have time to vote and provide volunteer days for employees to serve as poll workers, as we continue to face a shortfall of workers in our local communities.
We are also members of the Civic Alliance, a coalition of 1,000+ businesses looking to strengthen our democracy by supporting safe, healthy and trusted elections, and by inspiring our employees and clients to participate in civic life.
Disaster Relief
We recognize and acknowledge our responsibility to react to disasters around the world. Championed by employees with personal connections, our disaster relief campaigns have supported victims of wildfires in the U.S. and Australia, tsunamis in southeast Asia and the COVID crisis in India, among others.
“During the wildfires in Australia, it was devastating for me to witness the impact for my fellow Australians. The donations my colleagues provided supported people and animals displaced by the fire as well as the fire fighters working tirelessly to end the blaze. The additional gift matching the firm provided for this effort, on top of our standard annual gift matching limit, meant so much to me.”

Sinead Gilmore
Client Associate, EMEA Sales (London)

“When India was facing an unprecedented crisis due to COVID-19, the country was in dire need. Most of my Indian friends and I had family members deeply impacted. At that grim time, I was thankful my colleagues took advantage of the firm’s gift matching and that our CSR team recommended organizations where our donations would make a difference.”

Atul Kumar
Portfolio Manager, Multi-Sector Fixed Income (London)
